Knowing Panama
PANAMA is a friendly country for foreigners. For many years the country has been called the "Crisol de Razas" (Where the races melt).
When we travel to another country and say that we are Panamanians, the first thing that people mention is "the Panama Canal" "......... But we are much more than a Canal. We are a multicultural country with open arms to both our neighboring countries in Latin America and the rest of the world. Canadians and retired Americans in the Pacific beach areas, in the highlands of Chiriquí in Boquete, in Panama City. Colombians, Spaniards, Mexicans, Uruguayans and many more.
Panama has its charm...... For this reason every year there are more expats of multinationals and large corporations, who decide to stay permanently with their families or simply live their retirement in a tropical environment with cheerful people, in a safe country that offers them comfort, stability and -above all- with economic growth and a high degree of democracy.
We Panamanians are so lucky, and sometimes we take for granted what we have. During the last decade, we have had a booming economy, sovereignty, stable governments where democracy is still felt and breathed, mountains, rivers, two oceans not far from the capital, the Pacific and the Atlantic and the Grand Canal of Panama.
Panama is a service country and today has around 146 multinational registered under the SEM license, through a law that was created in 2007, for the establishment and operation of Multinational Centers. These companies have brought an investment of USD1,000 million and 6.000 jobs.
